Tips to owning a successful site

I get a lot of questions regarding how to make a better or successful site. That is why I created this page, full of tips and ideas.

#1. The most important thing to a successful site that I can think of right now, is a good layout and content. A great layout is so important because that is the first thing the visitors will see. You want to give off a good impression, right? I have a site layout tutorial right here for those of you that want a little help.

#2. The biggest turn off I see in sites, are (personally) when I see pop-ups, poor (inappropriate) layouts, and a messy site. Having Google Adds or advertisements on your site is great, and a fantastic way to make a little cash, but they can make your site look cluttered up really easily. You want your site to be fresh and tidy. Instead of having your adds on the top of your page, etc- try putting them in your link section (towards the bottom) If you have them right at the top, it will make your site even more cluttered. Plus, It will look like you are more of an advertisement site vs. graphics (or personal etc-)

#3. Having a good layout is important, but so is having good content. The first thing a visitor will see is the layout, but once they go to move on, the content is the next thing they will judge. Quantity does NOT equal quality. It is better to have very little content that has great quality, than bucket loads of content that is junky. Make sure you take your time when making new pages for your site. Your pages should be neat, not messy. When I see a site that has a lot of clutter, I feel like their site is junky; so I leave.
